A long-long time ago in the valley between Mount Merbabu and Telomoyo, there was a village named Ngasem. There lived a couple whose names were Hajar and Nyai Sekantala. They were very kindhearted and generous, so that the villagers were respecting them so much. Unfortunately, they had no kids. But, they never had a fought. Whenever a conflict came, they always did discussion to accomplish it.
One day, Nyai Sekantala sat still in front of their house and day dreaming with a blank expression. Her husband approached her and asked her what was in her mind. She told her husband that she felt so lonely being there alone, especially when he had to go working. She thought that it would be better if there was a kid around them. She felt so sad and hoped that she had a kid. She wanted to rise a kid and took care of him with so much love. Ki Hajar felt very upset tears dropped from his eyes, looking the way his wife was crying. Then after that, he decided to go to the Mount Telmoyo’s slope to make a hope for God.It had been weeks, even months, Nyai Sekantala was waiting for her husband to comeback. She started worrying about him since he still didn’t come from his prayer. She was afraid if something happened to him.
One day, she felt odd with her body. She had symptoms of pregnant woman and that was true. She was pregnant and months later, she gave birth. She had a shock because the child she gave birth was not human, but a dragon. Then she named her son ‘baru klinthing’, derived from her husband’s spear. Although Baru Klinthing was a dragon, he could speak like human. On the one hand, Nyai sekantala was happy. But in the other, she felt disappoint. She was afraid if the villagers caught her that she had a son who was not a human. Therefore, Nyai Sekantala raised his son secretly, hiding from the villagers. She planned to keep her son in Bukit Tugur, but firstly, she should take care of him so that he can reach that place easily.
As the times go by, Baru Kinthing became a teenager. He asked her mother whether or not he had a father. She was shocked at that time, but she knew that it was the right time to tell Baru Klinthing the truth. She told him that his father’s name was Ki Hajar and now he was at the valley of Mount Telomoyo. She asked him to go there meeting his father. Baru Klinthing was feeling unsure that his father would accept him as his son, since his appearance was not as a human. She told him to take his father’s heirloom with him so that his father would know if he was his son. He needed a prove from Baru Kinthing that if he really his son, he would be able to encircle Mount Telomoyo and he did it. Then his father told him to do a meditation on the Tugur hill to get his human body someday.
When Baru Klinthing did his meditation, his dragon body was caught and killed by the people of Patok village to be their prey. The villager made him as foods. Then, the human body was came there for asking food. They felt disgusted because of his odor and pissed him off. After that, he met an old woman and she gave him foods. He asked why the old woman didn’t join the party. She told that they also felt disgusted on her. Baru Klinthing then decided to give them a lesson. He went to their place and embedded a palm leaf rib on the ground. He challenged them to pull it. They were so arrogant and sure that it was a piece of cake. But the the reality was they cannot pull it from ground. Baru Kinthing himself pulled it and suddenly a lot of water emerged from the ground and drowned the village. After that, the village became a swamp and nowadays called ‘Rawa Pening’. Baru Klinthing turn again into a dragon and being the keeper of it.
